Harold E. Schirmacher

May 6, 1928 - June 16, 2011

Harold E. Schirmacher of Muskego died Thursday, June 16, 2011, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital at the age of 83. He was born May 6, 1928, in Milwaukee, the son of Walter and Iva (nee Tompkins) Schirmacher.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. On July 29, 1950, he married Joyce Pountain. For many years he had been a stonecutter at Halquist Quarry in Sussex. He was also the first manager at McMiller Rifle Range in Eagle and after retirement he was a groundskeeper at Wanaki Park in Menomonee Falls. Harold was a member of the Wisconsin House Outdoorsman Club and loved the outdoors, hunting, and would hold clinics for kids on fishing and especially enjoyed doing things for kids.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Joyce of Muskego; along with their children, Kenneth (Peggy) Schirmacher of Hartford and Linda Finn; former son-in-law, William Finn of Waukesha; his grandchildren, Dawn Schirmacher of Green Bay, Kara (Pat) Sullivan of Jackson and Jason (Jenny) Finn of Waukesha; and his great-grandchildren, Keegan and Aidan Sullivan and Jackson Finn. He is further survived by his brother, Ralph (Deanna) Schirmacher of Waukesha; sister, Barbara Schirmacher of Hartland; sister-in-law, Ann Schirmacher; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert (Doris) Schirmacher and Richard Schirmacher; and his sister, Janet (Keith) Aldrich.

A memorial gathering will be held from 11 a.m. until the noon memorial service Saturday, June 25, at the Prairie Home Cemetery Chapel, 605 S. Prairie Ave., Waukesha. Inurnment with full military honors will follow.
