David Wells Hanson

Feb. 3, 1944 - June 20, 2011

David Wells Hanson, 67, of Manitowoc, was born to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord, at home on Monday morning, June 20, 2011, surrounded by his family.

David was born Feb. 3, 1944, in Portland, a son of the late Charles Arthur and Elizabeth Clare (Gallagher) Hanson. He graduated with the Class of 1962 from Waukesha South High School and then attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

David served in the U.S. National Guard during the Vietnam conflict. On April 20, 1968, he married Florence M. Wright at the Wisconsin Club in Milwaukee. David was president and owner of Herrington Associates, a sales representative firm for industrial power transmission equipment with offices in Manitowoc and Dousman. David was an avid sailor, who enjoyed many wonderful opportunities to sail in the U.S. and Europe. He cherished his time spent with his wife, children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Florence M. Hanson of Manitowoc; son and daughter-in-law, Patrick and Jessica Hanson, and their children, Phillip, Oliver, Tommy, Jack and Chloe, of Manitowoc; and daughter: Mary Kate Newberry, and her children, Caleb and Benjamin, of St. Petersburg, Fla. He is further survived by his brothers, Steven Hanson, Daniel Hanson, Peter (Martha) Hanson and Christopher (Jean) Hanson; sister, Sandra (Denny) Stapleton; brother-in-law, Thomas R. (Luanne) Wright; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

A memorial service, officiated by his son, the Rev. Patrick Hanson, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 24, at Faith Church, 2201 S. 42nd St., Manitowoc. The family will greet relatives and friends from 9 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Friday at the church.

The Hanson family extends a special thank you to the staff at the Cancer Care Center of Holy Family Memorial Medical Center and to Holy Family Hospice for the compassion and care given to David and his family.

David was a spiritual, caring man, who will be missed by his family and friends.
