Harold Ray Cummings
July 4, 1918 – March 15, 2011
Ray Cummings of Waukesha and Naples, Fla., died Tuesday, March 15, 2011,
at the age of 92.
Harold was born in Iowa City, Iowa, on July 4,
1918, the son, of Ray and Marie Cummings. He married the love of his life,
Martha Felter from Van Meter, Iowa, on Dec. 27, 1942. Harold was a
longtime member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Waukesha. He worked for
General Electric Co. from May 1942 to August 1981. Harold was awarded
eight patents throughout his years as an engineer and manager for GE,
including the CT scanner detector, rotating X-ray tube structure and other
Xray tube improvements. He was also a senior member of the GE Elfun
Society. Harold was a member of the Masons-Waukesha Lodge #37, Tripoli
Drum and Bugle Corps and the Scottish Rite. His passion for outdoor
activities started as a boy. He enjoyed deer hunting, golfing, hiking the
"Rocky Mountains," fishing and camping into his 80s. Harold also
enjoyed square dancing and playing bridge. He was an avid gardener who
took great joy in planting and caring for his cherry and walnut trees.
Harold will be dearly missed by his children,
Stephen (Suzanne) Cummings, Gordon (Pamela) Cummings and David (Kathleen)
Cummings; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Grace) Cummings, Carolyn (Eric) Standarski, Brian Cummings, Laura (Keith) Clarin, Kathryn Cummings,
Joseph-Patrick Cummings and Matthew Cummings; and greatgrandchildren,
Skyler, Zecheriah, Taylor, Bailey, Mason, Eric, Julia and Gretchen. Harold
is further survived by other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a
sister, Margaret (the late William) Wright.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until the 6:30
p.m. Masonic service Monday, March 21, at the Cesarz, Charapata &
Zinnecker Funeral Home, 237 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha. Visitation
continues from 9:30 a.m. until the 10:30 a.m. funeral service Tuesday,
March 22, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 300 Carroll St., Waukesha. The
Rev. Gary Liedtke will be officiating. Burial will immediately follow the
service at Prairie Home Cemetery, Waukesha.
