Ray W. Blott
June 10, 1926 – March 22, 2011
Ray W. Blott was born June 10, 1926, in Waukesha County, to Jess and Linnie (nee Butke) Blott of Mukwonago, and died Tuesday, March 22, 2011.
Shortly after graduating from Mukwonago High School in 1944, he enlisted in the Navy and served as a gunners mate from 1944 to 1946, serving in both the North Atlantic and the Pacific fronts. After the service, he enrolled at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. While at Whitewater, he met his wife of 58 years, Margaret McGuire, from Highland Wisconsin, whom he married in 1952.
Ray taught business education in the Waukesha school system for 20 years, worked in the cattle industry and was active in the Wisconsin Cattlemen’s Association. Ray was a member of the Mukwonago VFW, was a past commander of the American Legion Post 375 and attended St. James Catholic Church in Mukwonago.
Ray is survived by his wife, Marg; his children, Daniel (Mary Kaye Zarek) and Jeffrey (Mary Logan) Blott; and his grandsons, Benjamin, Adam and Sean.
After retiring in 1986, Ray and Marg wintered for 15 years in Mesa, Ariz. He enjoyed his wonderful family, grandchildren and many friends. Ray enjoyed bridge dinner gatherings, golfing, reading and his dogs.
Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the 3 p.m. Mass of Christian burial Monday, March 28, at St. James Catholic Church, 830 Highway NN, Mukwonago. Burial will follow at Oak Knoll Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Mukwonago Community Library would be appreciated.
Ray’s family extends many thanks to his friends and Dr. Martin “Marty” Kern, who attended him during his long illness.
