Gertrude E. ‘Gertie’ Bessert

Gertrude E. "Gertie" Bessert was born Jan. 6 1935, in Zap, N.D., the daughter of the late Rev. Theodore and Gertrude Hilgendorf. She became a child of God by Holy Baptism and was confirmed on March 21, 1948, by her father.
She entered into Holy Matrimony to William Herman Bessert on June 13, 1953, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Rantoul. Gertie passed away Monday, May 2, 2011, at the age of 76.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 57 years, William H. "Bill" Bessert; her children, Bruce (Karla) of Wauwatosa, David of Potter Carolyn (Joel) Brutlag of Duluth Minn., Sherry (David) Marose of New Berlin, Timothy (Betsy) of Lincoln, Neb., and Michael (Gianna) of Menomonie; her sisters, Rosalind (Ken) Westphal of Shawano and Eunice (Ken) Sands of Beloit; and her brothers, Hilbert Hilgendorf of Shawano, Eugene (Mary) Hilgendorf of Warrenton, Mo., and Erhardt (Claire) Hilgendorf of Appleton. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Gertie was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Pamela.
Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until the 5 p.m. funeral service Saturday, May 7, at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 1205 S. East Ave., Waukesha WI 53186. Committal services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 9, at Prairie Home Cemetery in Waukesha.
Gertie was a beloved member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church and had been an active member of the church choir. She was dedicated to music, her church and the Lord.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the church school, Time of Grace Ministries or to Multiple Myeloma Cancer Research would be appreciated.
