Naomi V. Rutzinski

Dec. 26, 1926 - May 1, 2011

Naomi V. Rutzinski, 84, passed away peacefully Sunday, May 1, 2011, at Hospice Care in Fitchburg.

Naomi was born Dec. 26, 1926, the seventh of nine children of K.P. and Dottie (Rankin) Applegate on their farm near Attica, Iowa.

She graduated from Attica High School in 1944 and left for California to join her sisters and build airplanes for the war. In 1945, she came to Waukesha. There she met and then married Roman F. Rutzinski on Nov. 15, 1947. Together they had three children and she worked as a directory assistance operator for Wisconsin Bell until her retirement in 1983.

Naomi was preceded in death by her husband, Roman; her son, Michael; her grandson, Vincent; her parents; two brothers; and two sisters.

She is survived by her son, Ronald of Sussex; daughter, Joan (Marc) Loden of Fitchburg; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; three sisters; and one brother.

She loved to recount her history and had a sharp memory for names, dates and places. She loved to take long drives on country roads under a high, blue sky. She appreciated the simple things in life, good conversation and a sense of humor.

Her family extends a very special thank you to the many caring people at Hospice Care, and at Sylvan Crossings in Fitchburg where she had lived this past year. They gave her great comfort and companionship.

A memorial gathering for family and friends will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 8, at Church and Chapel Funeral Home, 380 Bluemound Road (at highways J and JJ, four blocks south of Interstate 94), Waukesha.

Church and Chapel Rudolph-Larsen Bros. Funeral Home is serving the family. For more information, call 549-0659 or visit to view the online obituary, leave condolences or receive directions.
