Janet M. ‘Jan’ Marks
Janet M. "Jan" Marks, formerly of Coronado, Calif., died at her home May 20, 2011, in Oconomowoc, surrounded by family after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Jan was born in Ixonia. She graduated from Oconomowoc High School. She went on to graduate from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. In 1973, she moved to San Diego, where she resided until moving back to Oconomowoc in 2005. She worked as a medical technologist in several hospitals in the Milwaukee area and the VA hospital in La Jolla, Calif., then started her own business, Classic II, in San Diego. She later sold real estate in California and Oconomowoc.
She is survived by her sisters, Judy Schulte (Rich), Joanne Marks and Joyce Laird (Glenn), all of Oconomowoc. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Rich Schulte Jr. (Susan), Debbie Brehm (Carl), Mike Annen (Heidi), Michelle Shaw (Tom), Mindy Annen, Jody Peter (Gregg) and Jeremy Laird, and many great-nieces, great-nephews and friends.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents W. John and Gladys Sprague Marks.
The family invites all Jan’s family and friends to come and celebrate her life with them from 4 p.m. until the 6:30 p.m. funeral Mass on Thursday, May 26, at St. Jerome’s Catholic Church, 995 Silver Lake St., Oconomowoc.
The family requests that instead of flowers, a donation be made in her name to the Oconomowoc Regional Cancer Center and Hospice.
A very special thank you to Dr. Richard Hansen and all the staff at the Oconomowoc Regional Cancer Center for the wonderful care and compassion they gave to Jan. Also to Bonnie, her hospice nurse, for all of her support and help.
