Nancy Graves Mead

May 25, 1929 - Nov. 6, 2011

Nancy Graves Mead of Waukesha died peacefully at her home early Sunday morning, Nov. 6, 2011, after a long battle with multiple illnesses. She was born May 25, 1929, in Detroit, the daughter of William H. and Esther Sherwood Graves.

She grew up in Huntington Woods and graduated from Royal Oak High School in 1947. She attended the University of Wisconsin, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in home economics in 1951.

In June of that year, she married Charles F. (Chuck) Mead, whom she met at the university. They celebrated their 60th anniversary this past June. Following their marriage, Nancy and Chuck lived in Augusta, Ga., and Bad Kreuznach, Germany, before moving to Waukesha in 1953. Nancy was very active in the community as a member and former president of the Waukesha Service Club and the Ideal Club. She was a proud, active member of the First United Methodist Church for more than 50 years. Nancy was also a member of the PEO Chapter AQ. She showed great love for her family, her community and her country throughout her life. Nancy enjoyed spending time with her family and friends at Sanibel Island, in Door County, and 'up north' at the cottage on Long Lake.

Nancy is survived by her husband and her three children, Dr. Robert C. (Carol) of Green Bay, John W. (Deidre) of Woodbury, Minn., and Carolyn M. (Michael) Burton of Fox Point; and eight grandchildren, Reed, Lauren, Joe, Maddie, Emily, Jacob, Collin and Charlie.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the 11 a.m. memorial service Saturday, Nov. 12, at the First United Methodist Church, 121 Wisconsin Ave., Waukesha, WI 53186.

The family would like to thank the compassionate care provided by Dr. Thomas Wittmann.
