Laurel Grant of East Troy found peace Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2011, at the age of 91.
He was born at home on Feb. 2, 1920, to parents Halsie and Mercy (Mitchell) Grant.
Laurel was a 1939 graduate of East Troy High School. On July 21, 1945, Laurel married his wife, Virginia "Peggy" Smith, in Milwaukee and they made their home in East Troy.
He liked hunting, motorcycling and may be most known for his passion of cigars. Laurel served his country as an ambulance driver in the U.S. Army. He was a member and former commander of the American Legion Loomis-Martin Post #188 and the VFW Post #7501, as well as a member of the Lions Club and East Troy Fire and Rescue. He also served on the town council for a time.
Laurel is survived by his daughter, Karen Grant-Morelli of Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; his brothers, LaVerne and Jerome; his son, Monty; and his son-in-law, George Morelli.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at Legacy Funeral Services, 2974 Main St., East Troy. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at the funeral home. Interment at Oakridge Cemetery to follow.
