Armin L. ‘Shrimp’ Laabs

Armin L. ‘Shrimp’ Laabs, youngest son of Ethel (Reid) and Charles Laabs, passed away peacefully Friday, Oct. 21, 2011, at the age of 91, with family by his side.
He was married to Nancy Leeds on Sept. 24, 1949, and they recently celebrated their 62nd anniversary.
Armin proudly served his country in the United States Army, 41st Field Hospital, during World War II in the Pacific theater in the Philippines and New Guinea. He was a 65-year member of the Oconomowoc VFW Post 2260 and a 62-year member of Dr.Martin Luther Church.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; children, Kevin (Michelle), Brian (Debbie), Diane (Tim) Smith, Curt (Lori) and John (Laura); and grandchildren, Elizabeth, Emily, Molly, Joseph, Iris, Troy and Brogan. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Ethel Laabs; sister, Eleanor Sydow; brothers, Wilmer "Wimp," Stan, Desmond "Punt," Ralph "Chink"; and his longtime special friend, Harold "Hiram" Ullrich.
Friends may visit from 4 p.m. until the 7 p.m. funeral service today, Oct. 25, at Schmidt & Bartelt Notbohm-Kreutzmann Funeral Home, 121 S. Cross St., Oconomowoc. His final rest will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at La Belle Cemetery.
