HARTLAND

Gerald D. ‘Jerry’ Thompson

May 11, 1939 - Sept. 2, 2011

Gerald D. "Jerry" Thompson, a longtime Hartland resident, passed away Friday, Sept. 2, 2011, at the age of 72 after a long bout with Alzheimer’s disease.

Jerry was born May 11, 1939, to the late Lloyd and Florence Thompson of Wausau, where they raised him. After graduating Neumann High School in 1957, Jerry served in the U.S. Army Reserves before graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point with a major in economics. He later moved to southeastern Wisconsin and worked as a sales representative for Viking Communications, based in Milwaukee, for approximately 25 years. Jerry established residency in Hartland in 1985 and lived there until 2005 when Alzheimer's disease began its rapid progression. Throughout his life, Jerry was known for his light-hearted humor as he genuinely enjoyed putting smiles on the faces of those around him. During his spare time, Jerry enjoyed woodworking, yard work, gardening, participating in Bible studies, playing ball with his dog Kayla and entertaining family and friends.

Jerry is survived by and will be fondly remembered by his three children, Steve Thompson of Mukwonago, Julia (Shannon) Shaw of Wales and Matt (Tracy) Thompson of Rubicon; his five grandchildren, Caitlin and Evan Shaw, Brittany, Emily and Sydney Thompson; his friend and former wife, Lois Meyers of Rubicon; his two sisters, Mary (Ken) Lawrence of Wausau and Lois Koepke of Mosinee; his brother, Wayne (Judy) Thompson of Madison; and nieces, nephews, other extended family members and many dear friends.

Jerry’s family would like to extend a very special thank you to the River Hills West Health Care Team and the Hospice Advantage staff who provided many years of exceptional care.

Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the 3 p.m. memorial service Saturday, Sept. 10, at Evert-Luko Funeral Home, 170 Warren Ave., Hartland, followed by a luncheon and celebration of Jerry’s life.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice Advantage or a charity of the donor’s choice are suggested.
