Elizabeth M. ‘Betty’ Koosman

Elizabeth M. “Betty” Koosmann died peacefully Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011, at the age of 93 at the Shorehaven Health & Rehab Center in Oconomowoc. She was born Jan. 10, 1918, in Milwaukee to William Schacht and Ella Andrae.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husbands, Walter S. Short and the Rev. Konrad F. Koosmann, and her brothers, Frederick Schacht, Walter Schacht and Frank Schacht.

Elizabeth was the loving mother of Thomas W. (Marilyn) Short and William R. Short; second mother of Gretchen (the late Rich) Whitaker, Konrad H. (Carol) Koosmann, Kenneth (Laurie) Koosmann and Karen (Don) Raether; grandmother of Gregory T. (Melanie) Short, Kristin (Kevin) Gahart, as well as David (Maria) Whitaker, Wendy (Steve) Hoke, Lynn (Michael) Bisner, Micah Koosmann, Nicole Koosmann, Matthew (Selena) Koosmann, Melissa Koosmann (Andy Breuniger), Eric Raether and Steven Raether; and great-grandmother of Elise, Cullen and Tessa Gahart, as well as McKinley Hoke, Orion Koosmann and Sean Whitaker.

Elizabeth was a graduate of Milwaukee Downer College Class of 1940. She became a certified occupational therapist in 1941. She was a member of the American Association of University Women and Christ the King Lutheran Church in Delafield. Elizabeth was a committed Christian with the ability to love generously and touch the lives of many people. She was a genteel woman of fine intellect with an inquiring mind, who took interest in those she met and connected with. She will truly be missed by many and remembered fondly for her many fine and caring qualities.

Friends may visit from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service Tuesday, Oct. 4, at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 1600 Genesee St., Delafield. Final rest will be at Graceland Cemetery in Milwaukee.
