Genevieve ‘Gen’ Koopmann

July 28, 1920 – April 5, 2012


Genevieve “Gen” Koopmann of Oconomowoc passed away peacefully Thursday, April 5, 2012, at the age of 91. She was born July 28, 1920, in Tilden, Neb., the daughter of Emil and Meta Schlecht. 

Gen married the love of her life, Norris H. Koopmann, on Jan. 12, 1941. She was a graduate of Milwaukee Area Technical College and received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Gen proudly worked at MATC-South Campus as a business education instructor. In 1980, Norris and Gen retired to Bella Vista, Ark., where they enjoyed many years together. Due to health problems, Gen returned to Wisconsin in 2011 and made her home at Shorehaven in Oconomowoc. 

Gen will be sadly missed by her daughters, Lynette (Wayne) Owens of Waukesha and Diane (Robert) Midland of Caledonia, Minn.; grandchildren, Jonathan (Leticia) Klug of West Allis, Katherine Teramura of Rogers, Ark., Jason (Irene) Klug of Waukesha and Joshua Midland of Minneapolis, Minn.; and great-grandchildren, Christopher, Jasmine, José, Victor, Joshua, Spencer, Camila, Calista and Bryan. She is further survived by extended grandchildren, Steven (Meghan) Owens, Jeffery (Susan) Owens and Brian (June) Owens; extended great-grandchildren, Caitlynn and Rhyann Owens; sister, Quinta (Theodore) Schubkegel of Oklahoma City; brother and sister-inlaw, Donald (Marlene) Koopmann of Stanton, Neb.; and other relatives and friends. 

Gen is preceded in death by her husband, Norris; brothers, Willard (Loretta) Schlecht and Orville (Lorene) Schlecht; sister, Regina (Edwald) Zemke; great-grandson, Kaleb; and a brother-in-law, Gerhard (Elizabeth) Koopmann. 

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Monday, April 9, at Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home, 237 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha. A second visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service Tuesday, April 10, at the funeral home. The Rev. Daniel Schmidt will be officiating. Private burial will take place at Bella Vista Cemetery in Bella Vista, Ark.
