Leroy ‘Leafy’ H. Zastrow
Leroy “Leafy” H. Zastrow, 84, of Oconomowoc, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Good Friday, April 6, 2012.
Leafy is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mabel. Leafy and Mabel were blessed with six children, James (Kathy) Zastrow, Sharon (Charles) Christoph, Nadine Zastrow, Kathy (Tom) Ginn, Ken “Fred” Zastrow and Donald (Jodi) Zastrow. Leafy was the proud grandfather to nine grandchildren and a great-grandson. He is also survived by other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lalah (nee Grimm) Zastrow; two brothers, John Jr. and Gordon Zastrow; and a daughter-in-law, Janet Zastrow.
Leafy lived life to the fullest. He was a farm boy who also served his country in the U.S. Army. Leafy retired from Bonded Spirits after 45 years in the beverage industry. He was a lifelong active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Oconomowoc and served on numerous school and church boards. Leafy was a member of the Liedertafel German Male Choir for 38 years. He enjoyed gardening, polka dancing, attending German festivals, working in his yard and spending time with his family and friends.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the noon memorial service Saturday, April 14, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Oconomowoc.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran School, where Leafy, Mabel and their six children attended, or Shorehaven Health and Rehab Services.
