Wayne Clinton Churchill

March 25, 1927 – April 7, 2012

Wayne Clinton Churchill, 85, of Walworth, died Saturday, April 7, 2012, at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center in Elkhorn.

He was born March 25, 1927, in Walworth. He was the son of Ralph and June (Lantz) Churchill. He graduated from Walworth High School and served in the Navy during World War II.

Wayne was married to Grace Helen Voltz in 1947 and they celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary in October 2011. Wayne was owner of Churchill Cabinet Shop and enjoyed building custom homes and kitchens in Walworth and the surrounding area. He served on the Walworth Village Planning Commission, was a member of the American Legion Post 102 and was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church in Walworth. He was known to his family and friends as a man who could “fix anything.” He had a quick wit, a green thumb and an inventive and curious nature. He had an incredible ability to visualize building projects in his mind’s eye long before he used his amazing skills to bring them to fruition. His smile, sense of humor and generous heart will be missed by everyone who knew him.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Don.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Grace; his daughters, Jo Pirlott (Mike) of Waukesha, Julie Churchill (John Potter) of Edina, Minn., and Jacqueline Churchill (Scott Schroepfer) of Minneapolis; and five grandchildren, Jessica Nelson (Chris) of Waukesha, Angela Pirlott (Capt. Bryan French) of Mesa, Ariz., Mike W. Pirlott of Waukesha, and Emma and Mikaela Potter of Edina.

Wayne’s family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 28, at Faith Lutheran Church, 420 Read St., Walworth. A celebration of his life, with the Rev. James Mehltretter officiating, will follow at 11 a.m.

Memorials may be given to Faith Lutheran Church or to fund medical research at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Research donations will be forwarded to the university by the family.
