Arlys M. Schmidt
Aug. 5, 1923 – April 18, 2012
Arlys M. Schmidt, born Aug. 5, 1923, died Wednesday, April 18, 2012, on her and Smitty’s 70th wedding anniversary.
Arlys Schmidt, of Waukesha, was born in Dousman, to George and Lena (nee Furrer) McGowan. They moved to Waukesha, when she was 1 year old. She graduated from Waukesha High School in 1941. Arlys married Warren Schmidt on April 18, 1942, right before he left for service in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. They had three children, Mary Lynn, Donald and Michael. When Mike started school, Arlys went to work at the First National Bank at the Five Points, where she worked for eight years. She then got a job in the personnel department at Wisconsin Centrifugal and after 22 years there, she retired in 1985. After retirement, she took many classes at Waukesha County Technical College. Arlys was a true mom to all her family. She enjoyed cooking and baking and she was quite the seamstress!
She is survived by her son, Mike (Linda) Schmidt of Waukesha; her grandchildren, Tim (Emily) Schmidt, Becky (Darren) Ginsch and Katie (Chris) Mulloy; her great-grandchildren, Alison Schmidt, Brianna, Evan and Dylan Ginsch, Elliott and Gavin Mulloy; her brother, Frank McGowan of Seattle; and many other family and friends. She was happy to live long enough to enjoy her great-grandchildren, who lived in the area.
Arlys was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Warren; her daughter, Mary Lynn; her son, Donald; her brothers, Charles, Joseph, Howard, Arthur and Cecil; her sister, Evelyn Bronk of Stevens Point; her special aunt, Mary B. Furrer, who taught her everything she knew; and other family and friends.
Visitation for Arlys will be from 10:30 a.m. until the 12:30 p.m. memorial service Wednesday, April 25, at the Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home, 237 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha, WI 53188. The Rev. John Schreiter will officiate the service. The family would like to invite friends to join them for a goodbye party for Arlys immediately after the memorial service at Hannon’s Pub, 357 W.
