Arline Mauer, 83, of Wabeno, died peacefully in her home Sunday, Oct. 2, 2011.
Her husband, Chris Mauer, died peacefully in their Wabeno home on Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010, at age 81. They will be buried together at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 28, at Highland Memorial Park, 14875 W. Greenfield Ave., New Berlin, WI 53151. Family and all friends are welcome to attend.
Arline was born Feb. 18, 1928, in Milwaukee, to the late Donald and Anna (Kubacki) Zimmerman.
She came to Oconomowoc in the late 1940s as a teen, and was a 1948 graduate of Oconomowoc High School.
Chris was born Feb. 2, 1929, in Mauston, to the late Chris and Nora (Jackson) Mauer. Having lost both parents by the time he was 12, he worked odd jobs to pay his own room and board during high school. Chris played baseball and football for Oconomowoc; he was a member of Cooney’s undefeated 1947 Little Ten Champion football team.
They married Feb. 3, 1951, at St. Jerome Church in Oconomowoc, enjoying love and life together for 59 years. Chris worked as a mechanic and service station owner before changing careers into metal fabrication. Arline was a homemaker and together they raised six children.
In 1989, they retired to Wabeno, where Chris enjoyed hunting and fishing, and even taught Arline to fish. For more than 20 years, they both enjoyed feeding and watching birds, watching Packers and Brewers games, and most of all, spending time with family and friends.
Chris and Arline are survived by their six children, Laureen (Ken) Deakyne, Gary (Chris) Mauer, Ron Mauer, Dan (Kelly) Mauer, Ken Mauer and Donna Mauer; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren (with two more on the way).
