Leonard C. ‘Len’ Fortier

April 1, 1933 - Aug. 25, 2012

Leonard C. “Len” Fortier of Waukesha passed away peacefully at his home Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012, at the age of 79. He was born April 1, 1933, in Orwell, Vt., the son of Laurence and Florence Fortier.

Len was a proud U.S. Navy veteran, serving in the Korean War. He married the love of his life, Mary N. (nee Hart), on Feb. 17, 1962. Len worked at IBM as a customer engineer, where he retired after 34 years. He was an active member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church, where he ushered and participated on the building and grounds committee. He was an avid Civil War buff: he belonged to the Waukesha Civil War Round Table and the Prairieville Irregulars, and attended the Carroll College Civil War Institute, and was in the first class to graduate. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.

Len will be sadly missed by his wife of 50 years, Mary; his daughters, Noel Fortier of Waukesha, Diane Fortier and Suzanne Fortier, both of Dodgeville; brothers, Harold (Sarah) Fortier and Edward (Dorothea) Fortier; and sister-in-law, Margaret Hethcote. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Paul; and sisters, Elinor and Ruth.

Visitation for Len will be held from 9 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial Thursday, Aug. 30, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 2400 W. Highway 59, Waukesha, WI 53189. The Rev. Kevin Barnekow will be officiating. The burial will take place privately at Union Grove Southern Veterans Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. John Neumann Catholic Church (see address above) are appreciated.
