Dr. Kenneth J. Dempsey

Nov. 23, 1928 - Nov. 28, 2012

Dr. Kenneth J. Dempsey passed peacefully Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, with his wife Edwina by his side at 84 years young.

Ken was born Nov. 23, 1928, in St. Louis, Mo.  He served in the Army and was stationed in Japan from 1945 until 1947, discharged as a sergeant. He earned a pharmaceutical degree from Washington University, and worked as a pharmacist for six years before attending medical school at the University of Missouri. Ken was a compassionate dermatologist for more than 35 years in Wisconsin and Missouri, often seeing patients late in the evening and only charging less fortunate patients what they felt they could pay, or nothing at all.

Ken served as president of American Medical Association of Wisconsin, was vocal in his support of independent private practitioners and individual freedoms in this country.

He was passionate about politics, medicine, music, family, woodworking, his dogs and the cottage up north, and will be greatly missed by his large family.

He will never be forgotten by his wife, Edwina; children, Cathy, Tom (Deb), Brian (Mary), Mike, Pat (Rania), and Tim (Gwen); dear friend and mother of his children, Mary Ann; 12 grandchildren, Shaun, Shannon, Angela, Katie, Matt, Liz, Grace, Sophie, Johnny, Timmy and twins Krissy and Maddie; loving nieces, Pattie (Ron) Rennekamp and Kathy (Curtis) Campbell; dogs, Molly and Jingles; and other nieces and nephews too numerous to mention.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Dempsey; his daughter, Kelly Ann; and his parents, Elizabeth Irene Curran Dempsey and Charles Cornelius Dempsey.

Deep appreciation and gratitude to the staff at Angels Grace Hospice for their loving care of Ken during his final days.

Father Cyril anointed Ken at AngelsGrace last Friday on his birthday, surrounded by his family, and will be presiding over the memorial Mass which will be celebrated at Evert-Luko Funeral Home, 170 Warren Ave., Hartland, at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5.  A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 3 p.m. until the time of Mass.
