Ruth Helen Anderson passed away Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012. She was born to the late Halfdan and Margaret Hjorth on Dec. 25, 1927, in Chicago. 

 

She graduated from Taft High School in 1945. Ruth received an associateís degree from North Park College in 1947, which was quite an accomplishment for a woman in that time period. She was employed by the A.C. Nielsen Co. until her marriage in 1950. She married Robert Garfield Anderson in Chicago on June 16, 1950.

 

Ruth was a lover of nature and animals. She also loved gardening, bird watching and cooking. Mostly, she enjoyed looking after her family of whom she was loving and fiercely protective. She was a wonderful wife and mother who had a gentle demeanor and sometimes spunky spirit. Ruth was a P.E.O. Sister, an organization dedicated to the advancement of women. She was a member of the Glenview United Methodist Church for many years and lived her life according to the principles of her steadfast Christian faith.

 

Ruth is survived by her sister, Marilyn (Paul) Murphy of Canfield, Ohio; three cousins in Norway, Halfdan (Aase) Johannessen, Gerd (Per) Nygaard and Ellen (Gjert) Dingsor; and by her five children, Paul (Lindy) of Lake Forest, Ill., Mark (Laura) of Holland, Mich., Katherine of Waukesha, John (Bev) of Cary, N.C., and Christine (Hernan Morales) of Houston, Texas. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

 

A memorial service honoring Ruth Andersonís life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at Elmbrook Church, 777 S. Barker Road, Brookfield.
