WAUKESHA
Mary Eleanor Bishop
Mary Eleanor Bishop (nee Dunham) returned to her maker Thursday, Feb. 2,
2012, at the age of 88.
She was a graduate of Wauwatosa East High School. She swam and dove for
the Milwaukee Athletic Club. Mary worked at Briggs and Stratton during
the war. She married William Bishop Sr., and with the help of their two
sons, Robert (Sharon) of Jefferson and William Jr. of Mukwonago,
operated several farms for 42 years.
Mary bowled in East Troy, Mukwonago and Fracaros Classic League. She was
active in 4H, was charter member of the Rural Stars, sang in the choir
and was a member of North Prairie United Methodist Church. She cooked at
Alioto’s and West Moreland. She was employed at McCoy’s and later Hill’s
Department Store. She donated several gallons of blood. She was most
pleased with the fact that she was responsible for getting the learning
disability program established in the Mukwonago school system.
Mary loved to cook and spent many hours cooking and sharing it with her
family at Oak Hill Village, where she spent many happy days, weeks and
years with her new family and friends.
In addition to sons Robert and William Jr., she is also survived by
another son, Ross (Marcella) Bishop of Jackson, and a daughter, Bonnie
Bishop of Waukesha; her grandchildren, Brenda, Penny, James, Shelly,
Michael, Sherry and Chad; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and
friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Gertrude (nee
Eckmann) Dunham; her brother, staff Sgt. Robert Dunham of the U.S.
Marine Corps; and her half sister, Dorothy Thomson.
Per Mary’s wishes, no formal services will be held.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the North Prairie
United Methodist Church, 107 N. Main St., North Prairie, WI 53153.
Special thank you to the entire staff at Seasons Hospice in Waukesha for
the wonderful care given to Mary.
Schramka-Herrick Funeral Home of Menomonee Falls, 251-0330, is serving
the family.
