Sheryl Gist passed away unexpectedly Monday, Jan. 30, 2012, at the age of 63.
She was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt and friend. Sheryl was a career-driven woman that enjoyed reading, travel, music, art and spending time with her late partner of 40 years, John "Jack" O’Neil and family. Sheryl did not have any children but was more than an aunt to her nieces and nephews, whom she adored, and in return, loved her dearly. Sheryl grew up on the north side of Milwaukee and went to Custer High School. After high school, she went on to Alverno College and got her degree in finance and became a CPA. After college, she moved to New York City and there she met John O’Neil and worked in the World Trade Center. She moved back to Wisconsin the early 1980s and started her own business. She was an intelligent, successful woman with a vociferous laugh that illuminated a room. Sheryl was opinionated and honest and enjoyed a good debate over politics, as well as dark Godiva chocolate with a nice glass of wine or cup of coffee.
She was the beloved daughter of Gertrude Bandler; loving sister of Noreen (Jim) Bartelt, Norman (Mary) Bandler and Christopher (Donna) Bandler; devoted aunt of Dawn (Matthew) Bartell, Karrie Bartelt, Erin Bandler, Sarah Bandler, Katie (Ryan) Jessel, Nickolas Bandler and Jacob Bandler; and great-aunt of Magen Bartell and Brianna and Courtney Bartelt. She is also survived by aunts, uncles and cousins.
A gathering for family and friends will be held at from 1 p.m. until the 2 p.m. memorial Mass on Thursday, Feb. 9, at St. Charles Catholic Church, 313 Circle Drive, Hartland.
