Herbert M. ‘Herbie’ Smith Sr.

Dec. 26, 1933 - Jan. 4, 2012

Herbert M. "Herbie" Smith Sr. of Waukesha joined his wife Beatrice (nee Stapleton) and his son Joseph P. in heaven on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, at the age of 78. He was born Dec. 26, 1933, the son of Amo and Lottie (nee Grant) Smith.

Herbie enjoyed long rides (known as his rodeos), where he enjoyed looking for asparagus, counting the number of deer he saw and his nightly ride around Pewaukee Lake. He had years of loving and caring for his dog Goofy. They were inseparable until Goofy’s death. He loved sitting in his yard during the summer and the enjoyment of the lawn ornaments he collected. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his sons, Robert J. (Ginny) Smith, Herbert M. (Arlene) Smith Jr. and Robert C. Fell, and his daughters, Patricia A. Smith, Karen J. Smith, Kay L. (Jimmy) Pieper and Lottie R. (Jeff) Smith. He is further survived by his brother, Gordon (Margaret) Smith Sr.; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his wife Beatrice and son Joseph, he was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Raymond and Roy, and a granddaughter, Jessica M. Wegner.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until the 7 p.m. funeral service Friday, Jan. 6, at Randle-Dable-Brisk Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Ave., Waukesha. Visitation continues at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, followed by a procession to Pilgrim’s Rest Cemetery in Pewaukee for burial.
