Dr. Wayne M. Newby

Dr. Wayne M. Newby, D.D.S., F.A.C.D., died Friday, Nov. 25, 2011, at his residence in Piperís Landing, Palm City, Fla. He was born in Arnott on Jan. 28, 1917.

He formerly lived in Waukesha, Oconomowoc and Sturgeon Bay before moving Florida. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Kathleen (nee Claffey) Newby, and six children, Kathy (Len) Powers, Linda (Mark) Fredrick, Barbara (Randy) Borgwardt, William (Barbara) Newby, Robert (Vicki) Newby and Mary (Ted) Vallis. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was a fellow in the American College of Dentists. He was past president of the Waukesha County Dental Society and past president of the Wisconsin Society of Dentistry for Children. His life memberships include the American Dental Association, Academy of Dentistry for the Handicapped and the American Society of Dentistry for Children. He was former chief of staff of Waukesha Memorial Hospitalís dental staff. Dr. Newby was the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award of the Society of Dentistry for Children and past chairman of the Committee on Hospital Dentistry of the Wisconsin Dental Association. He also served as a core evaluator for the American Dental Association Hospital evaluation program. Dr. Newby received his Bachelor of Science degree from Carroll University, Waukesha, and his doctoral degree in dental surgery from Marquette University, Milwaukee. He was a World War II veteran, serving the U.S. Army. He practiced dentistry in Waukesha, until retiring in 1974.

His wife and children were the most important thing in his life. He will be greatly missed by all of them.

His final resting place is at St. Josephís Cemetery, Waukesha.
