Tony M. Claas

Tony M. Claas passed away suddenly Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at the age of 52. Tony was born in Milwaukee on May 23, 1960, the son of Norbert and Irene (nee Winkleman) Claas.
Growing up in Sussex, he graduated from Sussex Hamilton High School in 1978 and continued on to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. It was in Platteville he met and fell in love with Twila DeJong, marrying on Sept. 24, 1983, and beginning a family. He has been a project engineer with Oilgear Co. for 14 years, and embraced the entrepreneurial spirit with his brother making fountains.
Tony was an avid runner, biker, skier, biathlete and hunter. He immensely enjoyed the outdoors in the company of family and friends, whether in fierce competition or a casual day in the woods. Tony strove for excellence in all his endeavors, from his passion for woodworking to his mechanical talents, creatively conquering any challenges that arose. There is so much he wanted to do, and he will be missed.
Tony is survived by his wife of 28 years, Twila (nee DeJong); his son, Marc (friend Nikki); and daughter, Erica Claas. Tony is also survived by his mother, Irene (nee Winkleman) Claas; his brothers, Ken (Holly) Claas, Bob (Karen) Claas, Jim (Suzie) Claas; and sisters, Geri Claas and Marie (Chuck) Kovacik. Tony is further survived by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Bonnie and Merrill DeJong, and by his sister-in-law, Julia (Terry) Pearson. He is also survived by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, as well as many relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Norbert Claas, on Feb. 14, 2005.
Visitation for Tony will be held from 1 p.m. until the 4 p.m. funeral service Sunday, July 29, at Church and Chapel Funeral Home, 380 Bluemound Road (at highways J and JJ, four blocks south of Interstate 94), Waukesha. A private burial will take place at St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Menomonee Falls.
