Miguel S. Melendez of Waukesha died Sunday,July 29, 2012, at his home at the age of 85. He was born in El Paso, Texas, on Oct. 24, 1927, the son of Aurelia and Agrepina (nee Reyes) Melendez. Miguel often dreamt of returning to his hometown of Lemesa, Texas.
He was a graduate of Klondike High School in Texas. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. For 35 years, he was employed at International Harvester and was the owner of The Strand tavern for more than 42 years. He enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers, although he was a proud Texan. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Elodia (nee Carrillo) of Waukesha, along with their children, Ricardo Melendez, Raul M. Melendez, Juan A. Melendez and Rose Ann Melendez, all of Waukesha. He was the dear grandfather of Carlos M. Melendez and Michelle A. Melendez, both of Waukesha, and Matthew Schigur and Christana Schigur, both of Mukwonago; and the beloved brother of Rofaela Lozano, Luz Pina, Ofelia Lucio, Maria Ortiz, Carlota Rodriguez, Aurolfo Melendez and David Melendez. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Onciemo and Fidencio Melendez, and his sisters, Manuela Arce and Anita Leal.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until the 7:30 p.m. funeral service Wednesday, Aug. 1, at Randle-Dable-Brisk Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Ave., Waukesha.
