Sylvester H. Heinz passed away Friday, July 27, 2012. He was born May 8, 1920, in Waukesha.
Sylvester retired from Briggs & Stratton Corp.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ursula (nee Kranz); sisters, Lucille (Heinz) Holterman and Sr. Helenita O.S.F.; and brothers, Arthur Heinz and Charles Heinz Sr.
He is survived by his children, Jerome (Kathy) Heinz of West Allis, Susan Jacquez of San Tan Valley, Ariz., Richard (Kathleen) Heinz of Wind Lake, Judith Heinz (Tom Bondowski) of Caledonia, Marguerite (Jack) Simanson of Milwaukee and Bernadette (Mark) Puzach of Rolla, Mo.; and 13 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren. He is also the brother of Florence (Jim) Haake of Iola, Ill., Eleanor Ropeter of California, Mary Balthazor of Franklin, Delores (Louis) Wisniewski of Milwaukee and Clarence (June) Heinz of Iola. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and friends.
Sylvester was a combat veteran of World War II. He served in Europe with the 3rd infantry Company K from 1942 to 1945 in Africa, Fedilia, Tonisio Sicily, Italy, Anzio, France and Germany. He received the Purple Heart medal, Good Conduct medal, Rifleman's badge, European Theater Ribbon with seven battle stars, a Bronze Star and four overseas bars.
He was a former member of St. Martin de Tours parish of Franklin, St. James parish of Mukwonago and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Waukesha.
Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, with a Mass of Christian burial at 6 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 225 S. Hartwell Ave., Waukesha. Private burial will be the next day at Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum.
