Ann Pope Root, 91, of Columbia View Terrace Adult Family Home, East Wenatchee, Wash., passed away Monday, April 30, 2012.
She was born in Kenosha on June 8, 1920. Ann, having been raised in the Saylesville School District, graduated from Waukesha High School, then with a bachelorís degree from Rockford College, Illinois, where she played on the class and varsity hockey, basketball and swimming teams, was president of the Womenís Athletic Association, and worked in the physical education department after graduation.
She was married 57 years to Bruce DeVoe Root from 1942 until his death in 1999. She raised three active sons and lived in many places in the Midwest and West Coast, finally settling in Oregon at Coos Bay, where she and Bruce found the peace of their dreams.
Ann was a social worker in child protective services, an active outdoors person, a dancer extraordinaire, knitter, and was active in hospital auxiliaries, her church and in the Coos Bay Yacht Club, where she and Bruce spent much time at their travel trailer. Her life in Leavenworth since 1999 has been a blessing for her through friendships, church, exceptional assisted living care and local medical services.
Ann survives her two sisters, Katharine (Ky) and Elizabeth (Betty).
She is survived by three sons, Rick, Eric and Craig; four grandchildren, Wendy, Noelle, Christine and Seth; and four great-grandchildren, Christopher, Katharine, Zoe and Emily.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. June 9, at Faith Lutheran Church, Leavenworth, with a reception afterward at Craig and Robinís home at 12671 Shore St., Leavenworth. Anyone is welcome to attend one or the other or both to celebrate her life.
The family requests donations to Faith Lutheran Church or Mountain Meadows Assisted Living in lieu of flowers.
