Jane Elizabeth Kishner

Jane Elizabeth Kishner, 98, passed away Thursday, May 31, 2012.

She was born to the late Minta and Charles Pierce on July 9, 1913, in Syracuse, N.Y. She graduated from Madison West High School in 1931 and received a Bachelor of Arts in dance from University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1937.

Jane taught modern dance at Greeley State College (now the University of Northern Colorado), Western College in Oxford, Ohio, and the YWCA in Milwaukee. Jane married Mel Kishner in September 1939 and retired from teaching to raise her family. They lived in Milwaukee and Pewaukee before relocating to Tucson, Ariz., in 1978.

Jane was an enthusiastic and talented gardener, both in Wisconsin and Arizona, and was an active volunteer and docent at Tohono Chul Botanical Park for many years. She maintained a vital lifestyle that included aerobics, dance and dynamic participation in Melís artistic career. Jane loved animals of all kinds and was never without a variety of pets.

She is survived by four children, Minta (Mike) Williquette of Anderson, S.C., Priscilla Barber of Buchanan, Va., Jay Kishner of Waukesha and Megan Kishner-Sazonov of Boulder, Colo. She is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

There will be a private family memorial in Tucson.
