ST. FRANCIS Betty Jean Smelcer May 5, 1927 – June 20, 2012 Betty Jean Smelcer found peace after a long illness Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at the age of 85. She was the loving wife of the late Ronald; loving mother of Sharon Franz and Gary (Gigi) Palmer; dear grandmother of Jessica (Scott) Freiburger, Bryan Franz (fiancee Yanel Maryse Ramos), Matthew Franz, Wendy Palmer, Kelly (Andy) Zydema and Matthew Palmer; fond G.G. of Gracie and Miles Franz and Sydney Zydema; dear aunt of Terry (Deb) Smelcer and Gary (Margaret) Smelcer; and sister-in-law of Elaine Smelcer. She is further survived by other relatives and numerous friends at Howard Village. Betty was a longtime volunteer at Waukesha Memorial Hospital. Betty was also a member of First United Methodist and Bay View United Methodist. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the 11:30 a.m. funeral service Saturday, June 23, at Prasser-Kleczka Funeral Home, 3275 S. Howell Ave., Milwaukee. A private interment will be held.
