Violet Locker Orchard

Violet Locker Orchard passed away Saturday, March 10, 2012, at Fairhaven in Whitewater. She was born March 30, 1910, in Oconomowoc, the daughter of Gerhard and Katherine Raasch Locker.

She attended parochial and public schools there, was confirmed in St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in 1923 and graduated from Oconomowoc High School with the class of 1927. She attended Spencerian Business College. She was employed by the Oconomowoc Canning Co. and worked in the booking department from 1928 through 1937.

She married Curtis Alvin Orchard on Sept. 25, 1932, at Sussex. They moved to Wauwatosa in 1933 and to the Little Prairie area in 1943, raising their Guernsey cattle on their farm known as "Happy Acres."

She was a member of Little Prairie United Methodist Church and its Women’s Society, where she held various offices in both organizations. She was also a member of Ward’s Senior Homemakers, where she also held various offices. In addition, she was a charter member of the Palmyra Historical Society. She also belonged to the Cornish Society of Greater Milwaukee, the Eagle Historical Society and the Wisconsin Guernsey Breeders Association.

She is survived by three children, Kathryn (Robert) Morrow of Hattiesburg, Miss., William (Kathleen) Orchard of Janesville and David (Terri) Orchard of Palmyra; five grandchildren, Julie of Janesville, Kristi Orchard (Brian Laufenberg) of Columbus and Jennifer Orchard of Madison, and Curtis and Heidi Orchard of Palmyra; and one great-grandson, Dane Laufenberg.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters Evelyn Best, Beatrice Locker and Frances Fulmer; and two brothers, Gerhard and Ronald Locker in infancy.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday, March 15, and from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service Friday, March, all at the Haase-Lockwood and Associates Funeral Home, 320 W. Main St. Palmyra, with Donald Enright officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Palmyra.
