Caroline M. Van Lare, 68, of Lebanon, passed away at her home Monday, March 12, 2012, while under the care of Rainbow Hospice.

Caroline May Edwards was born in Adams-Friendship on Sept. 11, 1943, a daughter of Chester and Viola (Drake) Edwards. She was a 1961 graduate of Pewaukee High School. On Sept. 1, 1984, Caroline married Wayne Van Lare in Waukesha.

She and her husband operated Wayne and Caroline’s Idle Hour in Genesee Depot, Holsum Foods in Waukesha and Just 4 Kids in Oconomowoc. Caroline enjoyed gardening and bird watching.

She is survived by her husband, Wayne of Lebanon; her mother, Viola Drake of Watervilet, Mich.; two children, Danette Schulz of Hustisford and Richard (Cindi) Husting of North Lake; six grandchildren, Cyrena, Alexandra, Ryan, Andy, Catherine and Eleanor; two great-grandchildren, Madeline and Dayton; two stepchildren, John (Bridget) Van Lare of Erin and Eric (Mary) Van Lare of Ixonia; five sisters and three brothers, Nancy (Robert) O’Neill of Pewaukee, Willetta (Arlin) Carpenter of Oconomowoc, Fred (Denise) Dettmer of Waterford, Sherry (Mark) Meinhardt of Sullivan, Chet (Marcie) Edwards of East Troy, Robert (Kathy) Dettmer of Floodwood, Minn., Bonnie White of Watervilet, Mich., and Linda (Mike) Ahles of Michigan; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Caroline was preceded in death by her father, Chester; her stepmother, Beverly Edwards-Ristow; a son-in-law, Wayne Schulz; and a sister, Sandra Edwards.

Visitation will be held from noon until the 1 p.m. memorial service Friday, March 16, in the Chapel at Glenview Memorial Gardens in Ixonia, with chaplain Shannon Finger officiating.

Memorials may be directed to the Waukesha Memorial Cancer Center.
