Former Lowell teacher Vicky Brittain, 79, formerly of Waukesha, died Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at the HospiceCare Center in Louisville, Colo.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 12, at Old Holy Cross Cemetery, 2530 Kinzie Ave., Racine, with a luncheon in Racine to follow.

Vicky was born Dec. 8, 1932, in Janesville, to Leo E. and Katherine E. (Pukropp) Kropp. She married Edwin “Bob” R. Berg in 1953 and together they had five children. Vicky taught elementary school classes, and piano, dulcimer and other musical instrument lessons. After retiring from Lowell School, she took up storytelling, and was known as the “Tall Tale Teller” throughout Milwaukee and Waukesha counties.

In 1977, she married Gene K. Brittain in Florida.

Survivors include her sons, Stephen (Jolene) Berg of Bettendorf, Iowa; TQ (Leslie Jones) Berg of Seattle; daughters, Diana Berg of Denver; Rosemary (Joe) Bieker of Lafayette, Colo.; Ellen (Dennis) Batchelor of Longmont, Colo.; eight grandchildren, Xelli and Decca Berg of Seattle; Jessica and Kelly Berg of Bettendorf, Iowa; Savannah Berg of Denver; and Andrea, Thomas and Anthony Bieker of Minneapolis.

She was preceded in death by her husbands and sister, Wanda Skupniewicz.
