Joseph G. Tabat

Joseph G. Tabat of North Prairie died peacefully Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at the age of 86. Joe was born May 25, 1926, in Ottawa, the son of John and Minnie Tabat. He was raised on the family farm in Ottawa and graduated from Oconomowoc High School. Joe married Norma (Stern) on Oct. 26, 1946, and together they raised five children in North Prairie. Joe retired from Tabat Electric and Heating, a business he founded and operated for more than 20 years. He was a long-term, faithful member of St. Johnís Lutheran Church and active in his community serving as assistant fire chief, president of the athletic association and little league baseball coach. Joe enjoyed gardening, bowling and golf. He was an avid sportsman. He trapped, fished, hunted and shot his last of many deer and turkeys at the age of 85.
He will be sadly missed by Norma, his wife of 66 years; children, Cheryl (Richard) Hunn of Waukesha, Dawn Tabat of New Berlin, Debra (Hari) Cheema of Pennsylvania, Timothy Tabat of North Prairie and Todd (Sue) Tabat of Ottawa; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Joe was loved and will be remembered by other relatives and many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings, Ralph, Robert and Fabian (Tex).
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. today, Nov. 27, at St. Johnís Lutheran Church, 312 N. Main St., North Prairie. A funeral service for Joe will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, at St. Johnís Lutheran Church in North Prairie, with the Rev. Daniel Torkelson officiating. Burial will follow at the North Prairie Cemetery.
