SAGINAW, Mich.
Frances M. Young Dec. 24, 1918 - Nov. 21, 2012
Frances M. Young of Saginaw, Mich., formerly of Nashotah and Pewaukee, died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, at age 93. She was born in Ferguson, Mo., on Christmas Eve 1918. She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Jim) Doane of Saginaw; her son, Finley (Chris) Young of Seattle; her sister, Dorothy Anderson of Belvidere, Ill.; her grandchildren, Andy, Rob and Chris Doane, Josh, Daniel and Rebecca Young and Jason Allen; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, John; son, Rob Young; parents, Frank and Bertha Frazier; brother, Don Frazier, and his wife, Doris; sister, Peggy Cowan and her husband, Ken; and her brother-in-law, Bob Anderson. During World War II, she wrote 668 letters to John while he was stationed in England. They record her daily life as well as her hopes, fears and dreams of the future, as did many letters other wives and mothers wrote to soldiers of the Greatest Generation. One early letter includes a finely drawn diagram showing Lt. Young the floor plan of the apartment she rented for herself and baby Linda. Like many of her time, she was unable to attend college, but worked to help ensure her children became university graduates. Many pictures, letters, notes and other mementos of her life are contained in 18 scrapbooks, which she began keeping in 1941 for future generations. She lived in 19 locations, in seven states, during her long life, a fact recorded in the autobiography she wrote for family members in 2003. In it she wrote, “it has been a good and privileged life.” Case Funeral Home is serving the family. For more information, call, 98-793-9700 or visit online at www.casefuneralhome.com.
