Oct. 29, 1985 - Oct. 5, 2012
Andrew G. ‘Andy’ Werlein of Waukesha went to be with his Lord on Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, at the age of 26. Andy was born Oct. 29, 1985, in Milwaukee, the son of Gerard and Janice Werlein.
He was a proud graduate of Waukesha West High School. Andy attended Western Wisconsin Technical College, La Crosse for woodworking and WCTC for training as a firefighter. He worked for Bell Ambulance as an EMT in Milwaukee, volunteered as a firefighter at the Sussex Fire Department, and was currently working at the Pewaukee Fire Station and Pewaukee Aurora Urgent Care.
Andy was a “big” fan of UNC and he loved watching March Madness Games. He lit up a room the moment he walked in with his humor and mischievous grin. Andy enjoyed his state sports teams, as well as being involved in various sports in high school.
He gave speeches to various organizations discussing his experiences with depression and suicide attempts, and did everything possible to help those in need dealing with depression. Andy was instrumental in assisting to get a law passed through Congress involving mental health issues, as well as being featured in USA Today and “The Morning Blend” for his advocacy work.
Andy enjoyed Packers, Brewers and Liverpool games, loved birds, Civil War and World War II history, running and having fun with family and friends.
If you knew him or met him, he was an instant friend.
Andy will be sadly missed by his loving parents; his siblings, Matthew Werlein and Natalie Werlein; his grandmothers, Jean Wischer and Therese (Jim) Duranso; and his four-legged friends, Muffin and Lily. He is further survived by aunts, uncles, cousins and many, many friends.
Andy was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Paul Werlein and Jerome Wischer.
