Lifelong
Waukesha resident Charles W. Kopshinsky, 86,
died Friday, Sept. 21, 2012, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital. He was
born May 20, 1926, to William and Adelia (nee Tessman)
Kopshinsky Sr.
Charles
was a graduate of
Waukesha High School. He proudly served his country in the United
States Army in the South Pacific during World War II. He was wounded
while in the Philippine Islands and later received the Purple Heart
medal. Charles was very proud to be on a ship in Tokyo Harbor on Sept.
2, 1945, when the Japanese surrendered, marking the end of World War
II. Charles was employed at Waukesha Cement and Tile for 34 years and
then worked for the School District of Waukesha for 10 years before
retiring. He was past commander and a member of Soat Vergenz VFW Post
#721, the Disabled American Veterans-Waukesha Chapter and the Military
Order of the Purple Heart-Waukesha Chapter and was very active in
all three organizations. Charles was thrilled to participate on the
Wisconsin Honor Flight a few years ago and was able to reconnect with
some of his Army comrades. Charles was a regular attendee of the coach
Ken Hollub Friday morning breakfast group and the Tuesday morning
breakfast at McDonald’s with St. Mark’s church group. He loved
traveling with his wife, Shirley, but most of all he loved his family
and grandchildren. He and Shirley were longtime members of St.
Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.
He
will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 63 years, Shirley (nee
Jensen) Kopshinsky of Waukesha; their son, Dan (JoAnn) Kopshinsky of
Waukesha; daughterin-law, Cindy Kopshinsky of Dousman; and his dear
grandchildren, Jennifer Kopshinsky, Dan Kopshinsky Jr., Kari
Kopshinsky and Nick Kopshinsky. He is further survived by his
brothers, Oscar (Elvira) Kopshinsky and Ted (Judy) Kopshinsky;
brother-in-law, Ken Fuller and sister-in-law Connie Kopshinsky;
sisters-in-law, Marilyn (Arnold) Rodencal and Rosemarie Jensen; and
many nieces and nephews.
In
addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert
“Bob” Kopshinsky; sister, Dorothy Fuller; brothers, Paul
Kopshinsky and William Kopshinsky Jr.; brother-in-law, Duane Jensen;
