June H. Beier

June 22, 1922 - March 29, 2013

Mrs. June H. Beier was born on June 22, 1922, and died Friday, March 29, 2013, at the age of 90, although she would tell you she was 39 and holding. Mom, nee Hollenback, was the eldest of eight children born to Mary (Meader) and Robert “Speedy” Hollenback in Dubuque, Iowa.

A graduate of St. Mary’s Academy, she relocated to Washington, D.C., in 1940 for a job with the FBI. While there, she met the love of her life, Arthur. They lived a “happily ever after” life. They danced, traveled and reveled in their married life for 65-plus years. Mom loved to learn. She thought education was the great equalizer in life. She graduated in 1966 with her education degree from UWM, finishing college while raising two kids. With this degree, Mom became an instructor in the Glendale/River Hills school system, staying there for all of her 21 years of teaching. Eventually, she returned to college and received her master’s degree in education from Cardinal Stritch University. Of all her accomplishments, Mom would consider her life with art to be the greatest fete of it all ... that and her shoes that matched EVERY outfit.

Together they raised two children, Clark (Linda) Beier of Mukwonago and Christi Torkelson (Allan) of Elm Grove. These children had six grandchildren for them: Bryan Cheesebro of West Allis, Jason Beier (Kari Heilman) of Mount Horeb, Greg Cheesebro (Anna Rodriquez) of Viroqua, Matthew Beier (Lana) of Madison, Hannah Torkelson of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Andy Torkelson of Berkeley, Calif. These grandchildren, in turn, gave them six great-grandchildren, including Laura and Josh Beier with Morgan Heilman, Odin Cheesebro-Rodriquez, and Layla and Leo Beier. For all of these children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and for as long as they could, Mom and Dad did not miss a recital, a game, a graduation, nor an art show, attending some 1,500 events.

They were our biggest and most loyal fans.

Mom was preceded in death by our dad, Arthur; her parents; her sister, Virginia Herbst; and her brothers, Andrew, Robert and William.

She is survived by a sister, Ava Ferlmann of Peoria, Ill., and her brothers, Jack (Pat) of Moorsville, N.C., and Dick (Donna) of Fort Myers, Fla.

In lieu of flowers, we kindly ask contributions be made in honor of the Beier family to Brookfield Central High School Athletic Department, Attn. Todd Sobrilsky, 16900 Gebhardt Road, Brookfield, WI, 53005.

Friends may visit from 4 p.m. until the 7 p.m. funeral service Wednesday, April 3, at the Schmidt & Bartelt Notbohm-Kreutzmann Funeral Home, 121 S. Cross St., Oconomowoc. Her final rest will be at St. Andrews Cemetery in Delavan.
