John J. Dolan
John J. Dolan, 83, died Saturday, April 13, 2013. A longtime resident of Hartland, he was the oldest of four children born to John and Julia of Milwaukee in 1929.
John was a graduate of the University of Chicago, the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Yale Drama School. He married Jane Penn in 1951. Professionally, he worked for Allen-Bradley, General Electric and Dresser Industries. He was also actively involved in music publishing and recording during the ‘60s and many of his songs are still available today in juke boxes across the country, on CD and on YouTube.
John was a past member of the Lake Country Players and an avid fan of state and professional sports, which he shared with his children and grandchildren.
John was a long-standing member of St. Charles Catholic Church.
John is predeceased by his wife, Jane; his brother, Philip G.; an infant brother, James; and cousin, Elizabeth Forrestal.
He is survived by his children, John (Dallas), Louise (Raleigh), Ellen (Nashotah) and Julia (Minneapolis); nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; his brother, Thomas (Chicago); his cousin, Kathleen Forrestal (Milwaukee); and special friend, Rie Maves. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Linden Grove, Waukesha, for their compassionate care.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today, April 16, at the funeral home. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Burial will be in Hartland Village Cemetery. Following burial, a luncheon will be served.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to the Humane Animal Welfare Society or the Salvation Army.
