Gaylord L. ‘Ole’ Olson


Gaylord L. “Ole” Olson of Waukesha passed away Sunday, July 28, 2013. He was born in Viroqua on Oct. 2, 1932.

Ole was preceded in death by his wife, Alice, and two brothers, Hallie and William “Peter.”

He is survived by his daughters, Dawn (Dan) Baker of Brookfield and Donna (Pat) McAleavey of West Allis; granddaughters, Ashley (Brad) Mervar and Jennifer McAleavey; sisters, Ida Largo, Audrey Strauss, Betty Lombard and Rose Hjelseth; and friends and other relatives.

Ole, as he was know by friends and family, served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict from 1950 to 1954 aboard the USS J.C. Owens. He managed Ben Franklin Stores before working for more than 30 years at Pressed Steel Tank Co. in West Allis. After retiring as an electrician, he kept himself busy with numerous hobbies and working part time at Jewel-Osco.

Ole’s wishes were to be cremated and to join his wife at the Bear Creek Cemetery, La Farge.

In lieu of flowers, the family has established a Gaylord Olson Memorial Fund at the Waukesha State Bank. Donations to the fund will go toward a memorial gift that will be sent to the Prostate Cancer Foundation, 1250 Fourth St., Santa Monica, CA 90401 (www.pcf.org).
