Richard U. Beischel

May 15, 1927 – Aug. 22, 2013

Richard U. Beischel, 86, of Palmyra, died Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013, at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born May 15, 1927, in Fort Atkinson, the son of the late Urban and Dorothy (Leedle) Beischel. He served in the U.S. Navy.

He graduated from Ripon College and was united in marriage to Helen Catherine “Katy” (Norris) Beischel for 59 years. Dick joined Palmyra State Bank in 1951 as a teller, eventually serving as president for some 35 years until his ultimate retirement in 2003.

He was a former member of the Palmyra Kiwanis Club and Palmyra School Board. Dick was very active with various community committees and volunteer groups who equally shared the same vision in enhancing the quality of small town life for the residents of Palmyra. Dick especially enjoyed outdoor activities – hunting and fishing with family and friends was his true joy. Dick was an accomplished golfer and marble player in his younger days.

He once was crowned the junior marble champion for the state of Wisconsin.

Dick was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be truly missed by many. Katy was the love of his life. While Dick was known as a kind and patient man, he never missed an opportunity to play out a practical joke.

He is survived by his four children, Christine (Daniel) Facciotti of Davis, Calif., Terry (Eunjoo) Beischel of St. Charles, Ill., Jeff Beischel of Milwaukee and Susan Beischel of New York, N.Y.; seven grandchildren, Marc (Elizabeth), Katy, Michelle (Joe), Tiffany, Kristin, Kaela and Andrew; six great-grandchildren, Matthew, Madeleine, Elena, Lillian, Sean and Jianna; one brother, Dean (Jane) Beischel of Racine; three sisters, Karen Pederson of Pewaukee, Shirley Aman of Waukesha and Gayle Golinski of Fort Atkinson; and by a host of other relatives and friends.

Dick was preceded in death by his wife; one brother, Joe Beischel; and one sister, Barbara Kevin.

The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Mary, Dick’s caretaker who provided unconditional care and support. She is a great friend of the family.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the 2 p.m. funeral service Monday, Aug. 26, at United Methodist Church, 122 N. Fifth St., Palmyra. Private burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Palmyra.
