Mabel E. Herman

Mabel E. Herman, 88, of Sparta, formerly of West Salem, passed away peacefully Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, at her daughterís home in West Salem. She was born June 9, 1925, in Grand Haven, Mich., to Theodore and Myrtle (Proctor) Bell. On April 2, 1966, she married Clarence Herman in Waukegan, Ill., and he preceded her in death on July 11, 2000. Mabel was a member of Our Saviorís Lutheran Church in West Salem, where she volunteered much of her time quilting and caregiving through Causeway. She enjoyed traveling, sewing, playing cards, gardening and cooking.

Mabel especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She will always be remembered for her big heart and for always having a smile on her face. Mabel will be sadly missed by her family and all who knew her.

Survivors include five children, Penny (Dave) Fredrick of Milwaukee, Bill (Rita) Dieman of Phillips, Bob Dieman of Waukesha, Wade (JoAnn) Herman of Oconomowoc and Linda (Brad) Mertz of West Salem; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, David (Kathy) Herman; her special friend, Art Manson of Sparta and his family; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; her grandson, Richie Herman; one sister, Bessie Shelmidine; two brothers, Jim and Ted Bell; one brother-in-law, Richard (Shirley) Herman; and other relatives.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, at Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home (Jostad Chapel), 121 N. Youlon St., West Salem. Visitation continues from 9 a.m. until the 10 a.m. funeral service Saturday, Dec. 7, at Our Saviorís Lutheran Church, 359 N. Leonard St., West Salem. Burial will be in Hamilton Cemetery, West Salem.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
