Lynne A. Dempsey

Lynne A. Dempsey, 100, of Rice Lake, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, at Lakeview Medical Center in Rice Lake.

She was born Nov. 12, 1913, in Lamberton, Minn., to Percy and Telia (Berg) Skelton.

Lynne’s mother died when she was very young, and Lynne went to live with her aunt. She later moved to Waukesha and graduated from Waukesha High School.

On March 16, 1933, she married Charles M. Dempsey at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Waukesha. Together they owned and operated Dempsey’s Tap in Waukesha until retiring in 1978 and moving to Rice Lake.

Charles preceded her in death on Feb. 2, 2002.

Lynne was an active volunteer in Rice Lake, especially with the hospital auxiliary and special education program.

She loved cooking, gardening, making crafts and fishing with her husband.

She is survived by two sons, Richard (Kathy) Dempsey of Anoka, Minn., and Jack (Jeannine) Dempsey of Green Bay; 13 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Dempsey; one son, Thomas Dempsey; four brothers and five sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at Skinner Funeral Home in Rice Lake with the Rev. James Powers officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. until the 1 p.m. service.
