Evelyn Eleanor Traut Siebrecht-Mangan

Evelyn was the eldest of nine children born to Anna Braasch and James Traut.

She grew up in and attended Milwaukee Public Schools, including Milwaukee State Teachers College (the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee) and graduated as a teacher of art, music and elementary education. She taught in Sheboygan and for the Milwaukee and Oconomowoc school systems. In her 50 years of teaching, she spent the longest portion of her career at Brown Street and Okauchee schools.

After her retirement in 1984, she was happily involved as a senior advocate. Her achievements included being a founder and longtime board member of OASC. Evelyn was also an active member of Summit Seniors and Oconomowoc Golden Agers, creating activities, driving the blind, helping to create the Silver Streak service and providing puzzles, games and activities for all her organization. In her spare time, she loved bird watching, traveling all over the world to add to her life list and was involved with the International Crane Foundation and the ornithological society, as well.

In 1995, Evelyn was recognized by the state of Wisconsin as an Outstanding Senior Citizen and honored at the Wisconsin State Fair.

In her personal life, after her long marriage to Richard F. Siebrecht, Evelyn was reunited with a college sweetheart, Ken Mangan.

Ken, also a retired teacher, married Evelyn when they were both 80. Ken passed away in 2000.

Evelyn is survived by her children, Thomas (Pat) Siebrecht, Susan (Mark) Becker, Gail (Rick) Dart and Janet (Wayne Wohl) Siebrecht, and her grandchildren, Fritz and Andy Becker, Rydean, Ian and Sierra Dart, and Season, Tom and Libby Siebrecht.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. today, Dec. 19, at the Schmidt & Bartelt Notbohm-Kreutzmann Funeral Home, 121 S. Cross St., Oconomowoc, and at Dr. Martin Luther Church on Friday, Dec. 20, from 10 a.m. until the funeral service at 11 a.m. Her final rest will be at Summit Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the International Crane Foundation in Baraboo are appreciated.
