Ione Martin, 84, of Mukwonago, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at
LindenGrove Health and Rehabilitation in Mukwonago.
Avis was born June 15, 1928, in Neillsville, the daughter of the late Hugh and Bess Selves. She graduated from Madison East High School, studied nursing at Madison General Hospital School of Nursing and earned a bachelorís degree in public health nursing at the University of Minnesota. Avis worked as a public health nurse for Waukesha County for many years. She was past president and a longtime member of School Section Homemakers. She enjoyed bird watching, sewing, reading, gardening and tending to their small farm. Avis will be remembered by many for her strong spirit and sense of humor.
She is the cherished mother of Dennis (Kim) of Mukwonago, Patrick (Lynn) of Mukwonago, Brendan of Mukwonago and Kate (Chris Conrad) Martin of Milwaukee and the dear grandmother of Nick, Charissa, Tracey and Kelly. Avis was loved and will be remembered by other relatives and many dear friends.
Avis was preceded in death by her husband, James, in 2003; her brother, Elliott; and her sisters, Neva, Mildred, Irene and Vivian.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until the 7 p.m. funeral service Monday, Feb. 11, at Mount Olive Evangelical Lutheran Church, 211 Main St., Mukwonago, with the Rev. Scot Ruffatto officiating. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb.12, at St. Theresa Catholic Cemetery in Eagle.
