Betty Jane ‘BJ’ Hammersley

 

March 27, 1921 - Feb. 19, 2013

 

 

Betty Jane “BJ” Hammersley of Waukesha, formerly of Iron Mountain, Mich., died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital at the age of 91. She was born in Elkhart, Ind., on March 27, 1921, the daughter of Olson and Thelma (nee Roberts) Walters. 

 

Betty was a past member of Sweet Adeline for many years. She was an avid bridge player and loved bird watching. She was a member of Christ the Life Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waukesha.

 

She will be sadly missed by her sons, Richard “Dick” (Sandra) Hammersley of Waukesha and Robert (Cheryl) Hammersley of Oak Park, Ill.; her grandchildren, Tina (James) Ludlow, John Hammersley, Brian (Christen) Hammersley and Debbie (Gary) Cohen; and her great-grandchildren, Brian, Alec and Kimberly Hammersley, Margaret and Elizabeth Ludlow, Amelia and Jaelyn Hammersley and Samantha and Maxwell Cohen. She is further survived by her sister, Barbara Walters of Michigan; her sister-in-law, Ruth (Harvey) Berry; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

 



She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward John, in 1988, and by her brother, Robert.

 

Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until the 4 p.m. funeral service Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Randle-Dable-Brisk Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Ave., Waukesha. The Rev. Eric J. Edwards will preside. Burial will be held at Quinnesec Cemetery in Iron Mountain, Mich.
