Viola T. Vergenz

Viola T. Vergenz, 88, of Jefferson, left this world to be with the Lord on Monday, Feb. 18, 2013. She was a resident of Eagle View Manor in Jefferson, where she was lovingly and tenderly cared for in her battle with Alzheimer’s disease and other health problems.
Born on June 30, 1924, in Waukesha, to Ernest and Catherine (Braun) Giese, she married Ervin Vergenz on Aug. 21, 1946, in Crown Point, Ind. He preceded her in death on Nov. 29, 2003.
She was a member of St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jefferson and attended regularly until illness intervened.
After her marriage, she and Ervin farmed in Rome and Jefferson. She was also a hairdresser for more than 30 years and worked at the former Germaine’s Beauty Studio and the former Maryann’s Beauty Studio, both in Jefferson.
They always had a big garden and were generous in supplying others with produce. Viola froze many vegetables and strawberries for the winters to come. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting and other crafts before she became ill.
Surviving are one son, David Vergenz of Steelville, Mo.; three grandchildren, Jamie Vergenz, Traci Walters and Melissa Arnold, who Viola helped raise; eight great-grandchildren, Dale Brotzman Jr. and Seth Brotzman, Ashley Brotzman, Bethany Arnold, Rebecca, Alicia and Govante Dominguez and Alex Vergenz; one great-great-grandson, Ivan Dominguez; one brother, Ernest (Orva June) Giese of Deerfield Beach, Fla.; one sister, Dorothy Paulic of Waukesha; one sister-in-law, Marlyn Giese of Sussex; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Ruby Snider, Alice LaPaz and Janet Holston; and one brother, Charles Giese.
Funeral services will be held at St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran in Jefferson at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23, with the Rev. Dr. Kenneth A. Comstock officiating. Friends may call at the Olsen Funeral Home in Jefferson on Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and at the church on Saturday after 10 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Jefferson.
