Michael John Ritter

March 23, 1952 - Feb. 14, 2013

Michael John Ritter went to join his heavenly father Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013. Michael was born March 23, 1952, in Milwaukee.

He was the eldest of the eight sons of Dr. Charles and Nancy (Van Eweyk) Ritter. Mike grew up in Elm Grove and spent the summers at the family cottage on Okauchee Lake. He attended Brookfield Central High School, Milwaukee Area Technical Collage and the University of Wisconsin-Stout. Mike moved to Winter Park, Fla., in 1976 where he worked for several retail stores in that area. He was an avid reader and lover of jazz. He remained a bachelor his entire life, although he enjoyed the exploits of his extended family, especially his nieces and nephews. He loved spending the Fourth of July at the lake and going to Brewers baseball games with his brothers and their families.

After Mike was diagnosed with skin cancer, he participated in a clinical trial for a new cancer medication. He was one of only a hundred people in the country on this experimental medication. He was very proud knowing he was a pioneer in making cancer treatment much easier than the current chemotherapy for those who would come after him.

Michael was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Nancy, in 2010.

He is survived by his father, Dr. Charles Ritter of Nashotah; his seven brothers, Charles (Susan) Ritter of Brookfield, Dr. Robert (Gayle) Ritter of Wauwatosa, Dr. Thomas (Dr. Carol) Ritter of Baltimore, Md., Paul (Sherri) Ritter of Mount Dora, Fla., John (Lynn) Ritter of Sullivan, Peter (Heather) Ritter of Nashotah and Tim (Val) Ritter of Milwaukee; and 13 nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Mike’s life will take place Saturday, March 9, at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Mapleton, W359-N8512 Brown St., Oconomowoc (920-474-7000). Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Mass.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mike’s name to AngelsGrace Hospice, W359-N7430 Brown St., Oconomowoc, WI 53066.
