James H. ‘Jim’ Schoenike

James H. “Jim” Schoenike, 58, of Ashippun, passed away Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012.


James Hilbert Schoenike was born Dec. 26, 1954, in Oconomowoc, the son of Hilbert and Wilma (Key) Schoenike. Jim attended St. Peter’s Lutheran Grade School in Lebanon and was a 1972 graduate of Northwestern Preparatory School in Watertown. On May 23, 1987, he married the former Sally Schwartz at Zion Lutheran Church in Ashippun.


Jim was involved in the field of agriculture his entire life and active in his community. He was on the Dodge County Fair Board since 1981, serving as president for 10 years and on the Dodge County Farm Bureau Board, serving as president for 22 years. Jim served on the Frontier FS Board for 23 years. He was president of the Wisconsin Association of Fairs in 1999-2000. He was the chairman of the Town of Ashippun for eight years and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. Jim enjoyed farming, working with people and spending time with his family and friends.


He is remembered by his wife of 25 years,  Sally; his daughters, Laura and Kari, both of Ashippun; four brothers, Jon, Mike, Tom and Richard (Susan), all of Lebanon; a sister, Kathy (Dan) Lemke of Hilbert; his father, Hilbert Schoenike of Watertown; a sister-in-law, Sarah Kottwitz of Watertown; a brother-in-law, David Schwartz of Ashippun; his father- and mother-in-law, Lester and Lucille Schwartz of Ashippun; as well as other relatives and friends.


Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Wilma Schoenike, and a brother-in-law, Herbert Kottwitz.


Memorial services were held Saturday, Jan. 5, at Zion Lutheran Church in Ashippun with Rev. John Kelling of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Lebanon officiating. Burial was at the Ashippun  Lutheran Cemetery.


In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Dodge County Fair Association, Dodge  County 4-H Endowment Fund, Oconomowoc Regional Cancer Center or to the charity of one’s choice.
