Patricia Louise “Pat” Crewes Shonkwiler, 84, passed away peacefully Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, S.C. She was born March 31, 1928, in Indianapolis, Ind. Pat was the daughter of the late James A. and Marie M. Crewes. She was the beloved wife of 39 years to the late George Shonkwiler; he preceded her in death in 1990.
Pat graduated from Howe High School in Indianapolis in 1946 and was a graduate of Stevens College in Columbia, Mo. She was an accountant for her father’s typewriter store in Indianapolis and a homemaker. Pat lived in Buffalo, N.Y., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Waukesha for 38 years, and moved to Agape Assisted Living in Rock Hill, S.C., in 2011. She had a passion for training dogs and loved to study American history. Pat was a member of P.E.O. since 1946, served as treasurer in the Waukesha chapter and recently transferred to the chapter in Rock Hill. She most loved having her children and grandchildren around her and spending time with them.
Pat is survived by her brother, James E. Crewes and his wife, Shirley of Indianapolis; nieces, Beverly Owens and her husband, Norm, and Marsha Rossiter and her husband, Tom; her children, Stephen C. Shonkwiler and his wife, Janet of Rock Hill, Jeffrey C. Shonkwiler and his wife, Dee of Hudson, Norman C. Shonkwiler and his wife, Jean of Hartland, and daughter, Leslie Shonkwiler Duket and her husband, Todd of Wales; grandchildren, Nathan and Alex Shonkwiler, Alex Jostad, Katie and Sarah Shonkwiler, and Tyler and Heidi Duket; her step-grandchildren, April Alabbasi and Robert Robinson; and step-great-grandchildren, Sabrina Sizemore and Leena Alabbasi.
Visitation for Pat will be held from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at the Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home, 237 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha. A second visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the noon funeral service Saturday, Jan. 26, at Raub Methodist Church, 8404 N. State Road 71, Earl Park, IN 47942 (times would be an hour later in Indiana due to the time zone change). Burial will immediately follow at The Fleming Cemetery, York Township.
